Career Goals

Early on in my academic journey, I changed majors from Microbiology and Cell Science to Computer Science. Right now, I am still figuring out and forming an idea of where I want to go with my professional life. For most of my life, I had always dreamed of going to veterinary school and becoming a veterinarian. I have found that career is not the one I want to go into. I did an internship at an animal hospital my senior year of high school. That experience taught me that having a job as a veterinarian would not be as fulfilling and exciting as I thought it would be. Luckily, I have found my new passion for programming and can envision a future career with it. As of now, I know I want to work in the tech industry and work with programming.

In 10 years, I can see myself working as a programmer. With my major in Computer Science, I will be able to gain professional experience through internships. As of right now, I have not had a computer science internship yet. I plan on obtaining an internship within the next 2 years. Having an internship will give me valuable information on what it will be like to work in the tech industry. It will also give me more direction into where I want to go with my professional career. Some jobs I am open to looking into are software developer, video game developer, web developer, mobile app developer, and AI engineer. There are hundreds of thousands of tech companies out there, so I will need to narrow down my search, by fine tuning what I want to do. I will need to gain some experience and get a feel for what job would suit me best.

My dream job would be a video game developer. I really enjoyed the times I have programed games like tic tac toe, blackjack, sudoku and minesweeper. It would be very interesting to turn a fun activity into a career. As I am majoring in Computer Science, I could become a video game programmer. Going to work and doing something fun, exciting, and rewarding every day would be a dream job. In terms of overall professional goals, I see myself working for a tech company. Possibly even starting up my own tech company. As I see it, there is a lot of room for me to grow and plenty of opportunities to explore.
