About the Course

My impression of the educational technology field is that it is constantly evolving. With technology changing at a rapid rate, education has been forced to change with it. Educational technology is the use of technology in or out of the classroom, that assists learners on their journey. Technology used in education is supposed to guide learners and give them tools to problem solve on their own and learn by doing. Furthermore, technology adds a flow to learning, allowing students the freedom to explore, engage, and grow as learners. As more and more teachers become comfortable with using technology in the classroom and as the technology evolves to serve students, the potential for learning grows. Throughout the course, I got the opportunity to use some of these technologies that are in education. Some examples are the google apps, photoshop, digital design, digital storytelling, and web databases.

I learned a lot about how technology is changing in the educational field. The layout of the course is focused on hands-on activities, even for an online class. I learned a lot more through the hands-on activities than I would have if it was just reading articles and writing discussion posts, like a lot of online courses are designed. There are a lot of new emerging technologies such as virtual reality, and artificial intelligence that I think will eventually become a regular part of education. Reflecting on the course, it has shifted my view on what education is. I can apply the knowledge I gained in this course to future professional activities, by keeping in mind how software will be used. As a future programmer, I will be creating software and programs, which may be used in education. I now have background knowledge in how technology is used in classrooms. I will be able to take a more well-rounded approach to how I want to create a new project and even explore how the new project could be used in the field of education. I also learned about web applications and other digital design. These skills will be very helpful in an everyday professional environment, as the google apps are used in many workplaces. In general, knowing your way around technology is an essential skill to learn in this day and age.
