Storytelling

I chose to use story jumper to create my digital storytelling project. I did so because children’s books are an entertaining way to read a story for all ages. It holds more challenges, as when I was writing about a complex topic such as the parts of a computer, I had to get creative and find a way to make it childlike and fun.

Regarding the first story, “Chip Finds a Home,” is about a microchip that is lost and needs a new home. I was inspired to create this story because computers are fascinating. I thought it would be fun to make the little pieces of hardware come to life. The purpose of the story is to use something that would not ordinarily be brought to life and create a story with it. My target audience is kids and people who like computers. I tried to match the computer hardware to its name and gave them nicknames that could be worked into a story. I feel like this story could be adapted and almost recreated with human characters, so that makes the story well rounded. This one brought me some challenge though. It was challenging to find the best fit for a background for the story, I did some trial and error at first.

For the second story, “Enemies Become Friends,” my pets at home inspired me. My two cats Buttons and Chubs feared my dog Allie, when we first brought her home as a puppy. Even though the cats were bigger than Allie, they were still terrified of a new animal in their home. The purpose of the story is to bring real life events back to life in a story. My target audience is kids. This story was fun to bring to life because I got to give the animals their own voice. Being able to bring an animal, or even object to life and speak is a very powerful thing that storytelling has the ability to do. This story was challenging in a different way than my first story was. With this story, the challenge was making sure all the space was utilized appropriately. I had to make sure the pages were not too empty. With the computer story, the characters took up a lot of space, that was not the case with the animal story.
